Reports To: SYEP Employment Coordinator

Pay Range: $30-$38 *based on city, state and/or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances

Position Summary:

The Employment Specialist will be under the direct supervision of the Employment Coordinator. The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and enriching opportunity for youth enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment Program. The Employment Specialist will provide ongoing training, supervision, and mentorship to a team of Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff). The Employment Specialist is responsible for recruiting and onboarding host worksites, preparing documentation for worksite folders, creating outreach templates, and reviewing documentation submitted by Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff) to ensure compliance with UAU and DYCD standards. The Employment Specialist is expected to provide mentorship to their team and to support them with conflict resolution, communication with worksites, and managing deliverables, including but not limited to, weekly compliance paperwork and incident reports. The Employment Specialist will strive to provide quality job experiences to youth enrolled in SYEP.

Primary Job Responsibilities (Included but not limited to):

  • Supervise a team of Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff) by using client-centered approaches to obtain successful outcomes during SYEP
  • Provide ongoing training to Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff) throughout programming including but not limited to digital platforms, programmatic paperwork, reporting, worksite etiquette, and mentorship
  • Support Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff) with mentoring SYEP participants by creating templates, providing prompts, and providing constructive feedback
  • Conduct in-person site visits alongside Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff) to assess performance and gauge feedback from participants and partner worksites
  • Conduct weekly team meetings to provide guidance and instruction to Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff)
  • Complete internal audits of participant timesheets, worksite monitoring reports, participant evaluations, and other funder-issued compliance paperwork
  • Maintain professional communications and correspondence with worksites and partners in coordination with Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff)
  • Onboard host worksites by explaining program requirements and completing registration paperwork required by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development
  • Recruit worksites in high demand industries/sectors identified by Program Coordinators
  • Implement strategies designed to support employers/business partners and maintaining relationships with host sites
  • Provide technical assistance and training to worksites/host businesses before programming begins, as well as assist with any issues during SYEP
  • Communicate with other Employment Specialists and at-large employment engagement team to ensure smooth launch and implementation of programming
  • Attend and participate in the training of Worksite Monitors (Seasonal Staff)
  • Tracking retention rates by identifying patterns in youth participation declining, following up with youth to re-engage by identifying the problem and a solution for youth
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinators, Youth Employment Coordinators, and other team members to mediate participant-related issues
  • Create referrals to appropriate support services to assist youth with barriers to employment
  • Keep advising statistics, work schedules, and other reporting documents up to date
  • Assist with any other advisory and departmental duties and projects as needed

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be 18 years or older at time of hire
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or 2 years of experience in youth services or working with youth from various populations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable mode of transportation, preferably a motor vehicle
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to serve as a strong role model and provide guidance to young workers
  • Ability to work both in-person and remotely for community outreach and administrative tasks
  • Professional attitude and demeanor; business casual attire
  • Willing and able to take initiative and allow for a flexible work schedule; including some nights and occasional weekends.
  • Demonstrates operational knowledge and proficiency of remote work/remote learning technology, including Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google Suite software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently, including meeting deadlines, while contributing to a collaborative team effort
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and ability to thoughtfully and accurately assess and respond to individual needs
  • Respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.

  • Position is in a well-lighted office environment
  • Involves sitting approximately 50% percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time.
  • May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet or more of the observer).

Pay: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour
